Lately
Mum made a wreath for the front door.
I'm itching to paint again, it's been too long.
Printing and packaging.
And this poor girl has been stressing lately because of the summer storms we've been having.
Lucky she has her best friend to keep her company.
Have a wonderful week. x

A Thoughtful Gift
My nephews are outdoorsy, nature loving boys. They helped me by taking many photos of mushrooms for me to use as references for my art exhibition, along with their parents (for whom it became quite a competitive obsession), on their trip across Australia. They are all very kind and generous, and the youngest of them gives me the most wonderful gifts. He has given me beautiful feathers and leaves, a round yellow plastic counter with an intricate pattern that he came across somewhere. Whenever he gives me these presents, he tells me he thought it might inspire me with my paintings.
He has lots of ideas, and is incredibly in tune with nature, collecting and growing seeds, finding insects. He notices everything, this boy. I remember driving with him in the car one day in winter, and he remarked on all the birds nests in the bare trees by the side of the road. He was only three or four at the time and I remember thinking how kids always notice what we adults overlook.
He collected these shells for me, and I received them last week. I have never seen such beautiful shells! Each one is special. They have the most intricate patterns and details and I plan to do a series of paintings featuring them. My family often give me little presents like this. Postage stamps, stones, scraps of pretty paper, seed pods, leaf skeletons, birds nests (thank you Mum, Dad and Chris!). Gifts like these mean the world to me, because it shows how well my family understand me. Thank you Isaac! x
I've never seen such a tiny perfect sea urchin shell!

Packing + Posting
Since Country Style magazine's Christmas issue went on sale last week, I have been busy printing, packaging and posting orders to lovely customers and stores around Australia. It's so amazing to see my little business growing. I am so grateful for each and every one of my customers and supporters for allowing me to do what I love, and also for sharing my excitement!
Can you believe Christmas is next month?! This year has flown by too quickly. x

A huge thank you to everyone who came to the opening night of Forest + Feather (and those who were there in spirit!), as well as all of you who have visited the gallery last week to see my exhibition. I've been truly touched by the support and love of so many people, especially my brother who surprised me by coming from Sydney in secret to be at opening night. I can't say how much that meant to me, and it was such a special night.
My amazing boss Libby presented me with this stunning arrangement of flowers yesterday to congratulate me on my exhibition. The photos don't do it justice, it is the most beautiful arrangement. Thank you Libby!

Studio
I'm still preparing for my solo exhibition 'Forest + Feather', which means painting lots of mushrooms, leaves and rocks. My little studio has been filled with feathers, clumps of moss, stones and mushrooms for inspiration.
Today I'm having a little time off to have lunch with family and hear about their adventures travelling to the centre of Australia and along the southern edge of the country.

Weekend
After a massive week of commissions, painting and a very exciting photo shoot, I'm taking it easy this weekend to catch up on orders for cards and paint for my exhibition. I have so much to be grateful for right now, and even though life has been a bit of a whirlwind lately, I'm so happy.
Harley made this delicious rhubarb crumble and included his favourite ingredient, campari so it's a lovely balance of sweet and subtle bitterness, which sounds weird but is really nice.
Hope you had a lovely weekend! x

Forest + Feather // Art Exhibition
My art exhibition
"Forest + Feather" will be held at The Corner Store Gallery in
Orange, September 4-21. The opening night is Friday Sept 5th from 6-8pm. All
are welcome and I would love to see you there!
The exhibition is a collection of my watercolour and gouache artworks, featuring lots of birds, mushrooms and other plant life. All pieces will be for sale on the opening night and the weeks afterwards.
Here is a little excerpt from my artists statement for the show:
"Working primarily with watercolour and gouache, I create colourful artworks with a botanical theme, depicting flora and bird life in an illustrative style. Preferring to work with fine tipped brushes, my aim is to create intricate works of detailed patterns and lines.
I am interested in the life cycle of plants, and the natural process of life, death and renewal. I am awed by how a mighty oak is born from a tiny acorn, the way that bees and other insects pollinate flowers which then turn into fruit, and the fact that all living things will eventually die and replenish the soil. In nature, nothing is wasted. Every creature and plant has a significant role to play within its fragile ecosystem. My art has been influenced by my growing acknowledgment of the need for sustainability in a disposable society."
